3 Natural Remedy for Diabetes

Since antiquity, diabetes has been treated with natural medicines from plants. Recent scientific investigation has confirmed the efficacy of many of the plants in the management of blood sugar levels in diabetics. Here are three of them:

Brotowali (Tinaspora crispa)

Brotowali (Tinaspora crispa)
Brotowali plants contain active compounds tinokrisposid efficacious accelerate the release of glucose by increasing metabolism or stored directly as fat. Research from RS King Chulalangkorn in Thailand on 36 patients who were given extracts brotowali showed a significant decrease in blood sugar. The most commonly used of stems and roots brotowali is traditionally boiled for drinking. Clinical trials showed that nontoxic brotowali safe.

Pare / Paria (Momordica charantia)
Pare / Paria (Momordica charantia)
Pare or pariah is a tropical vegetable widely cultivated in Asia, Africa and South America, and has long been used in traditional medicine as cure diabetes. Pare contains steroidal saponins known as charantin, insulin-like peptides. These active compounds enhance the regeneration of cells, stimulates insulin secretion in the pancreas, and stimulates the storage of glycogen in the liver which affects overall lower blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes.

The traditional way to consume bitter melon as an herbal medicine is to extort as juice. As brotowali, bitter taste. Be careful not to consume too much bitter melon, as it can cause stomach upset and diarrhea. Drink in small portions, such as half a glass, but regular is better for health. Furthermore, diabetics taking hypoglycemic drugs (such as chlorpropamide, glyburide, or phenformin) or insulin should also be careful to consume bitter melon, because it can strengthen the effectiveness of the drug, causing severe hypoglycemia.

Gymnema Sylvestre
Gymnema Sylvestre
Gymnema is like the betel vines that grow in tropical forests. The leaves are oval (ellipse) and small yellow flowers shaped like bells. The active ingredient of this plant, gymnemic acid, is extracted from the leaves and roots, and helps to lower and balance blood sugar levels. Unique shape of gymnemic acid molecules is similar to glucose allowing it to fill cell receptors in the lining of the intestine to prevent the absorption of sugar molecules.

Extracts of this plant can be an excellent substitute for blood sugar-lowering drugs because it helps the pancreas produce insulin in type 2 diabetes (in which the patient's body produces too little insulin or cannot use insulin efficiently). Gymnema also improves the ability to control blood sugar levels in type 1 diabetes by improving pancreatic beta cells and stimulates the formation of insulin.
